Printing and Bindery Equipment Installation and Equipment Electrical Service
Graphic Electric is your printing press and bindery equipment expert. In fact, we are specialists in the graphic arts industry and began our electrical service business in 1986 to serve just the needs of local and regional printing companies. Over the years our service offerings have expanded and now we are electrical contractors to the printers, industrial laundries, and industry.
We provide electrical services for Heidelberg presses, Komori presses, Mitsubishi presses, NexPres, Miller printing presses, etc.
Turnkey Printing Press Installation Services
To assist you in understanding the value of our specialized electrical contracting services for a printing press installation we've detailed the typical steps from the initial contact all the way to the final printing press installation and testing. We provide all of the electrical contracting and county permitting needed for the installation of your new printing press.
- Meet with you and review the proposed printing press locations, electrical
requirements, and peripheral equipment locations such as Chillers,
Circulators and Dryer.
- Determine the total new electrical load of the equipment being installed.
Determine if existing electrical service in the building is sufficient
in size to hold additional loads using Total Demand and New Load Calculations. This
will identify if you will need a building
power upgrade.
- Meet
with local power company field representatives to begin the Design/Build
Phase of new service. Take into account the need for minimal disruption
in power to the building.
- Lay out the new outside transformer location, transformer pad location,
buried conduits from the transformer pad to the new service location
in the building.
- Install new underground primary and secondary conduits to the new
transformer per the local electrical power company requirements.
- Complete installation of new service switchgear. Complete conduits
to re-feed original service. Obtain GFI Testing on the Main Breaker
in jurisdictions where applicable. Obtain county inspections required
before service will be energized.
- Install conduit and wire to all new press equipment as required
by the manufacturer.
- Test all voltages and connections.
Printing Press Installations
Please find listed below several of our recent printing press installation details from our portfolio of projects.
House of Printing – Burtonsville, Maryland
Performed a completed installation of new 3,000 AMP, 208-Volt NEMA 3 rated
outside switchgear. Coordinated with Baltimore Gas & Electric, architects,
engineers and county officials to complete the installation and re-feed of
existing building switchgear. Provided new power with transformers, to feed
new Komori five color press, dryer and air compressor. Relocated existing bindery
machinery to make room for new printing press.
Defense Map – Bethesda, Maryland Relocated to St. Louis, Missouri
Disconnected four color 52" Planeta printing press from the Bethesda location.
Prepared it for shipping to the new St. Louis, Missouri facility. Disconnected
all folding and cutting machinery at old St. Louis facility. Disconnected sheeter
at old St. Louis facility. The old facility was being relocated to a new St.
Louis, Missouri location. Provided power to 52" Planeta printing press, all
folders and cutters, and sheeter at the new print facility in St. Louis. Worked
with riggers and machinist to complete installation within three week time
period as required by the customer.
Bindery Equipment Installation
The installation of bindery equipment requires that our electrician meet with you, the customer, to determine the location and total electrical load of new bindery equipment. In the typical installation, a power upgrade is not typically needed.

We can provide electrical maintenance service on all equipment that we have installed. Typically in the installation of new bindery equipment, a county permit will not be needed. (The requirements for each county and project should be reviewed by our professional electrician.)
